Physical 3D Grout Representation and Dynamic Connection Editing for Base Plates using Change Connection Option

Currently, defining grout thickness under a structural base plate in OpenBuildings Designer creates an empty void/gap rather than a physical 3D non-shrink grout solid. As a result, modelers and detailers must manually model separate grout elements and connections under every column base plate. This repetitive manual workaround significantly increases modeling time, delays project delivery, and risks inconsistencies in BIM coordination and drawing extractions.

Proposed Solution:

Physical 3D Grout Geometry: Automatically generate a 3D solid geometry for the non-shrink grout pad when thickness is defined in the change connection, eliminating the need for manual secondary modeling.

Parameter Customization: Allow custom dimensions/chamfers directly to the grout layer for accurate quantities, drawing generation, and clash detection. (Sometimes we need to show the chamfers on two sides)

Impact & Time Savings:

Implementing this feature will streamline structural detailing workflows and drastically reduce manual modeling hours across large steel structures.
