Create wall from space in Reference file

Currently the place wall tool has the option "From space". This works well as long as the space is in the active model. I'd like it to work also if the space is in a referenced model.

It seems that with the current implementation, using this tool automatically changes the associativity for the space to follow the wall contours, when they are changed. It would be a difficult thing to keep when not all the elements are in the same model.

See also related topic Idea 139 - Create space by flood on Referenced geometry.

My reasoning for keeping the spaces separated from the rest of the (architectural) model is to simply have a "Spaces" model that can be used in combination with Structural model, Architectural model or MEP model(s). If I'd put them in the Architectural model, then it will always be fooling around with level visibility if I don't want to show the architectural elements (for example on structural drawings) where I do want to show the room name/numbers.

How frequently will feature be used? Once a week
How much time will you save? Not about saving time so much as about but being more flexible.

Hi Johan, Thank you for this valuable idea. We will monitor further user feedback on this idea to decide upon future implementation accordingly.

There has been several attempts in the past to link elements between files. Hopefully, there will be some support for this at platform level. For example, dimensions can not be associated to elements in Ref attachments. There was a brief period when this appeared to work but later broke.

Bentley's federated approach to modeling needs cross file links desperately. Not very BIM otherwise.

One example where Prostructures has managed to link across files.
