New tool: Perimeter Fence Tool

a large Bentley account (Big Ticket Project) is asking for a new Feature/Tool in creating a parametric Perimeter Fence.

this feature shall;

  1. it behaves and be placed like a Railing tool or a Curtain Wall Tool.

  2. it follows the profile: linear Type & Cascaded Type

  3. it shall have a parametric posts & segmental panels

  4. it shall be part of a UI - Separate tool button

Note: Currently, the users are creating wall Fences model using Railing tools, Profile Tools as linear 3D LineStyle, or manual post & wall modeling which is time consuming.

How frequently will feature be used? A few times a day
How much time will you save? it will save time as creating wall fence is time consuming

    Hi Fernando,
    One option for the terminology would be creating a new catalog item "perimeter fence" and then linking it to the place railing command.
    The additional reporting requirements and classifications would require future development. We will monitor further user feedback on this idea to decide upon future implementation accordingly.

    Hi Dominic SEAH,

    the problem with using Railing or CW tool is the BIM information, the model you create from such tools(Railng or CW) will not tell you that this element is a perimeter fence/wall but rather either Railing or CW Element. 3D linestyle however will not give you the quantity of the element ie no. of posts, number of walls or the interval between segments or the height of the wall which is supposed to be highly parametric.

    Intersting! It would help to understand what prevents the Railing or CW tool from doing what you want.

    Scalability is one problem I can see. It might be something that would be best solved using the 3d Linestyles functionality in Mstn. Maybe the Railing tool should be updated to leverage 3d line styles? I understand that the Mstn 3d Linestyle UI is being updated.

    Raster linestyles are also quite powerful, but they only work in plan which would not be very useful for fences.
