We have several utilities that are point solutions for specific dataset management tasks. To migrate users to a new version of a dataset or backup user generated content requires multiple steps involving use of these utilities and manual manipulation of individual dataset files.

Each dataset release includes a PDF list of delta changes describing which files have been removed, changed or added. The changes described have to be effected manually.

It is easy to overlook steps, miss changes in Bentley content between versions and/or user generated content contained in files/folders across numerous locations.

To avoid loss of user data during product upgrades we currently do not automatically overwrite existing datasets which can lead to divergence between installations.

While these can be mitigated by knowledgeable management where available, unmanaged users can end up in a mess. Even where knowledgeable managers are available the task is time-consuming and confusing.

We lack any ability to fully report on dataset content so users can see what they have got.

This is an impediment to product adoption and/or expansion.

We desperately need to consolidate the current tools and fill the gaps in functionality to make dataset management easier for all levels of user expertise and to minimize the manual manipulation of individual dataset files.
