Allow Updates to Cached Drawings with missing references

If a reference is removed from a composition model, then any cached drawings referencing Saved Views from that composition model will get an error message that prevents the cached DV from updating. There are several reasons that users may want to remove a reference from a composition model, and they shouldn't be prohibited from updating their cached drawings because of that. A warning is fine as there may be cases where the missing reference is not intentional, but we would like the option to update the DV cache despite the missing reference.

Currently the only way to update the cached DV with the composition's references removed is to set the DV to Dynamic and then re-cache it. This process makes any hidden cached elements reappear and would require them to be rehidden after it is cached again.

How frequently will feature be used? Once a week

    All,
OpenBuildings Designer can only offer this functionality if it is provided by MicroStation. Therefore, a new idea with this topic has been filed in the MicroStation ideas portal. Please also vote for the MicroStation idea https://microstation.ideas.aha.io/ideas/MSR-I-1399 if you would like to see it in OBD.

@Travis, Thank you for filing this interesting idea. Thanks to Dominic and Duncan for your comments.
As this is a MicroStation (PowerPlatform) related topic we are in contact with the MicroStation team. There is already the open MicroStation PBI 664228 (Enhancement) in our database for this topic.
We will update you, as soon we receive new information.

With rapidly changing and developing designs it is common to replace and swap references within models. Despite best practice being to update the saved view, there is logic to assuming that the saved view should automatically recognise the new references.
Even without that, the saved view should be able to be updated removing the missing references. not locking you into a process of restoring the DV, losing cached/hidden amendments.
The user generally asumes that the saved view is just a link to the plan/section/elevation cut from the model.

Presumably, the user updated the Saved View when the Ref attachment was removed?
