In dense models it is easier to identify one/a few elements and see their relations to other elements.
Like viewset.mdl did in ABD
How frequently will feature be used? | Several times a day |
How much time will you save? | When modeling 3d it will save a lot of time and it will make possible workflows now not possible. |
This idea has now also been filed as a MicroStation idea. There you can vote: MicroStation idea "Apply a Displayset to a specific view"
@All
There is a workaround provided by the MicroStation team that is also working in CONNECT Edition. You can create a saved view setup display set and create a Named Group with the same name. To recall it apply the saved view then use the named group of the same name to select the elements and apply displayset: Named groups, displaysets and quick sets
We will also create this idea as a MicroStation idea to receive broader user feedback.
@All
I am in touch with the MicroStation visualization team, as this idea refers to the general visualization platform. I will keep you updated.
@johannes
A Fiat and a Ferrari both have four wheels, but there is a difference :-)
Smart tools makes it fun to work.
I'll try to post a video when I run into a good case //Thomas
Hi Johannes,
I'm not sure I understand Thomas' use case. But I would really find it helpful to have displayset specific to a view. Exactly as the title of this IDEA suggests.
Might be interesting to have both the "Displayset" as we know it (which works on all views simultaneously) as well as a "Viewset" that works on a specific view only.
Hello Thomas,
Thank you for your response.
You might know the "Displayset" functionality that offers almost all of the things you are looking for. You can find it under Building Design > View > Tools.
The only thing it does not provide is linking a Displayset to a specific view. Is the per-view linkage important for you?
For your information: Display rules can now be applied to a specific view in the latest OBD Update 10 as a technology preview.

Hello Johannes
This is assuming you do complex 3d-modeling of a building. (complex=many pieces of geometry regardles of scale). And
Say you have a View Window with levels, orientation etcc carefully set up so you don't want to loose it. Or really messy.
This is all about getting to view the elements you need and nothing moore
But you discover you need to adjust two elements to each other in that mess.
Left-drag to select a bunch of elements, invoke the command, dp in another View Window.
If that window had a different level mask perhaps you are done.
Or you do a rotation to get a clearer view of your element of interest.
If your first view was top, and your selected a front view, then repeating the process to a right view might clear the skies for you.
I have the command on a F-key and the command adjusts itself SET/AD/CLEAR depending on context.
And closing the file dismiss the settings - which I find very good.

Hello Thomas,
Thank you for your idea. Could you please provide us with information about the use cases of different display for different views?
