It is recognised that components and assemblies need to be replaced intelligently. This is supported at platform level by the Replace Cell tool.
Assemblies provide a way to for users to insert a lot of stuff. They will eventually need to manage that mess which will include replacing and updating those Assemblies. This will require a means to assign some marker info to Assembly's components on placement. Named Groups or/and Items or Element Templates or DGS or F&P?
NG, Items, ET,DGS,F&P tagging option in the Place Assembly dialog box? Auto increment the Assemblies name or the NG,Items, DGS, F&P property on placement.
To replace / update the Assembly, the Placement Point and any transforms will be required. This is normally stored with the Cell header type info. Stored as an Item attached to all the Assembly's components? Or include a 'placement' Cell with a point element or Placement Point. The Cell also host the Items info like the library path etc and the rest of the components will only need a link to it (Named Group?).
Place Assembly tool to include additonal info to enable replacement later.
How frequently will feature be used? | A few times a day |
How much time will you save? | Lots especially when BIM working is heavily based on progressive refinement aka LOD, Model Progression Schedules. |
Thank you Dominic for filing this valuable idea. We already have the Enhancement (Product Backlog Item) 790380 for this topic. This will go through our usual assessment and prioritization process.
